How to get free content for your videos

Getting your video noticed relies more on content than anything. With over a hundred thousand videos uploaded by users every day on Youtube, you might be looking for ways to spice up your videos to stand out.
Popular videos usually include music, images or extra footage (edited in) - finding free content like that for your videos can be a daunting task – Most creators want to get at least something out of you for using their material. If you don’t give them what they want your video could get muted or even deleted. Luckilly Youtube has added some other options for companies to chose the fate of the infringer. If you use content from Warner Music Group etc. they can chose to display advertisement in your videos.
So you can still get away with using some material without getting yourself deleted, but if you’re trying to make a video that can generate money with your own advertisement (like the Youtube Partnership program), the importance of having the rights to the footage you’re using is major. This is also true for many other video hosting sites

So where can you find free content if you’re making a commercialized video?

The biggest providers have always been the big stock footage houses. On internet they are istockphoto.com and istockvideo.com On these sites you either pay to use a clip or picture, or  pay for open access to their libraries for some time.
On Flicker you can find free images by going into advanced search (linked right next to the search bar after a search) and check the Creative Commons button and the “find content to use commercially” button. Or you can go directly to CreativeCommons.org – where you can also find music and free loops to use from ASCAP.
Some video editors have an advantage with finding music if they use apple software  packaged with apple loops. You can generate professional sounding background themes easily with some apple loops and best of all, you can use it in your videos even if they are for commercial purposes!
Other places to find free music would be any of the secondary big “royalty free music” sites you can find by googling that quote, depending on your tast or needs you might find your luck there instead – With ASCAP being the leading provider and sometimes costing money, you might have to dig through some less cool tracks, on these smaller sites, in order to find something that works AND is free.
I hope you find something useful for your videos. If you need more tips see my articles here on Equicktips or in my Video Blog. Good luck
